Athena, third Western Hoolock Gibbon rescued in two months last Sunday by our Sonja WRU. Little baby of eight months old, illegally kept as a pet in a remote village of Nongstoin area, Athena is being stabilized at the center.

Western Hoolock Gibbon infant rescued
One more Western Hoolock Gibbon infant rescued from illegal custody by our Sonja WRU yesterday afternoon from North-Garo Hills. He is very malnourished and suffers from several bacterial and fungal infections, but is now between caring hands.

Baby Western Hoolock Gibbon rescued from Ri-Bhoi
Baby Western Hoolock Gibbon rescued by our Sonja WRU today from Rhi Boi district. The little gibbon is injured on his left upper arm (probably a bullet injury) but is now in very good hands. He is the first gibbon we rescue outside of Garo Hills and it took our team tremendous efforts to locate him.

First Western Hoolock Gibbon couple back to the wild
HURO is delighted to officially announce the successful release of a first Western Hoolock Gibbon couple back to the wild on last Wednesday. Remi and Robinson were released in Nokrek National Park after seven years of rehabilitation at Sonja WRC, and are showing a behavior up to the mark in their new environment. This first, for HURO, for India and for Western hoolock Gibbon conservation work was lived as a very emotional moment for our entire team and all the wonderful people who offered their help, expertise and knowhow in countless fields. We want to thanks all the stakeholders in this adventure, our partners, Ms Maneka Gandhi for her wonderful support, the Meghalaya Forest department, our board, our staff, all the people who have been involved with us for so long to get to this point. Thanks to you all. But be aware: It's only the beginning !
