About Us
Huro Programme is a dedicated non-profit organization working at the intersection of wildlife conservation, community development, and education in Northeast India. Our primary mission is the protection and long-term conservation of the Western Hoolock Gibbon, the only ape species found in the Indian subcontinent and one of the most endangered primates in the world.

To achieve this broad aim of conserving the Western Hoolock Gibbon (ranked amongst the most endangered primate species in the world by IUCN in 2010) in the Northeastern Indian states – we have now formally incorporated as a not-for-profit Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013: HURO PROGRAMME FOUNDATION.

This transition strengthens our governance, transparency, and long-term ability to deliver impact across research, rehabilitation, community engagement, and habitat protection for India’s only ape. Founded as part of a long-standing conservation initiative, the Foundation carries forward years of work focused on safeguarding biodiversity while empowering local communities. We believe that conservation is most effective when it combines scientific research, local participation, and sustainable development.
